Quick facts
About Mariposa School of Skating
Established in 1973 and founded by Doug Leigh, the Mariposa School of Skating is based at the Allandale Recreation Centre in Barrie, Ontario, serving skaters from Barrie, Orillia, and beyond. The school has operated for over five decades, building a broad curriculum across both figure skating and hockey skating disciplines.
Programmes include Pre-CanSkate, CanSkate, StarSkate, competitive skating, Power Skating, Edge & Balance, and specialised offerings such as Rising Stars, RVH Therapy on Ice, and seasonal camps and seminars. Off-ice dryland sessions complement on-ice instruction. The programme range accommodates recreational adult skaters through competitive-level athletes.
Reviewers have noted the presence of Olympic-level coaching staff at camp sessions, as well as a welcoming environment for adult skaters returning to the ice.
What parents say
“Had a skating camp here last year & enjoyed my learning experience from Olympic level coaches. I was happy to meet other adult skaters at the camp too, would like to come back again if there are opportunities.”
